Trees of Treetown
Ann Arbor is nicknamed “Treetown” for good reason, but when you don’t know what the trees are, everything can look like one big “green blur.” Soil scientist, nature enthusiast, and photographer Will Brinkerhoff took us on a nature walk through the Nichols Arboretum to enjoy the fall colors and learn about the native plants and tree varieties that make up Ann Arbor, including one of the largest and oldest Gingko trees in Ann Arbor! The Arboretum is free to the public and you can take your own tour year-round.
Drunk History
We enjoyed drinks and heard stories from the history of Ann Arbor with Patti Smith, a local historian, teacher, storyteller, and author of several books on Ann Arbor history, walking to local bars to have a drink and hear stories from the history of the surrounding neighborhoods.
Art In Ann Arbor
Ann Arbor is filled with opportunities for art lovers. From the annual Art Fair to numerous art galleries, art classes, and a plethora of vibrant murals. We took an art walk with Ann Arbor Art Center to discover the best murals downtown and learn about their public art initiative to paint the town and bring it to life through the eyes of local artists. Ann Arbor Art Center offers a variety of classes year-round, and you can take your own self-guided mural walk using their guide here.
Tea Time
Did you know Ann Arbor is home to one of the top tea experts in the country? Lisa McDonald is one of the only certified European Tea Sommeliers in the United States and author of “Tea For Dummies.” We had tea with Lisa and she told us more about her journey to founding Teahaus and her world travels consulting with specialized tea farms across the globe. You can taste her hand-crafted blends for yourself by visiting Teahaus just a few blocks down the road from us!
