One of the many things I love about working at Cahoots is the endless community of people around me. Today I was able to talk to Daniel Young, the founder of Circadian Risk, a risk analytics company.

As a young college student, I had never been to a day long conference. The concept was new to me, and I was excited to experience it for the first time at Intermitten 2019, “The Conference for Changemakers,” in the Ark Theatre in Ann Arbor. Everyday leading up to the event, I would think about what exactly a “changemaker” is and wonder if I deserved a seat at a conference solely intended for such individuals.

If you’ve followed Cahoots at all over the years, you’ll know we like pluses — a lot. So, where did they come from, and why? We shared the story of our pluses first hand, three years ago at the first Intermitten conference. Starting today, we’re launching an experiment called our House Car program. A few months back, we purchased a Tesla Model 3. Sure, we could’ve easily gone with a less flashy car, but what fits our personality better than an automotive startup making some of the sleekest, fastest, most technically advanced cars out there? It just had to be a Tesla. And it just had to be all-wheel-drive with full autopilot capabilities.

In the world of quickly proliferating, fast-growing companies, mission statements are more valuable than ever. But what is a mission statement? Essentially, it is the reason your company or organization exists. Mission statements help you address what you’re doing and who you’re serving, which help align all of your employees and ensure everything they do is in service of the mission.

Cahoots has always prided itself on the entrepreneurial spirit emanating from the building here. As found on our website, “Our cultural foundation is born from a common perspective of taking risk, getting stuff done, seeking our personal best, and having a positive impact.” While we have so many entrepreneurs working here, we got the chance to speak with one particular guy, Joseph, who is officially launching a BRAND new venture, Principal Interest. Principal Interest is focused on tackling the issue of Student Debt.

I started Movellus when I was still a Ph.D. student at the University of Michigan conducting research on semiconductor design. The goal of the research was to take chips to the next level in terms of power and speed to help nudge Moore’s law forward. Chips have analog portions and they have digital portions. The analog portions are still custom designed and cause a lot of the issues in chips today.

One of the cool things about coworking in Cahoots are the people — who come here from all different types of tech companies. Last week, I got the chance to sit down with Liesl from Revolution Parts, a startup based in Phoenix, to learn a bit more about what their focus is and why they are here in Ann Arbor.

As I write this, it’s 10:20 am on the first day of my second week of my internship at Cahoots, a co-working space in downtown Ann Arbor. I’m hoping that a few extra sips of coffee from my “Freudian Sips” mug might allow me to overcome this writer’s block. When asked to make a new post for our blog I wasn’t sure what to write.
